Sew boutiquey!

Things that made me smile.....
- finishing this outfit
- an unbelievably relaxing morning
- sticking to my guns
- a picnic dinner with the kids
- reading Winnie The Pooh as a bedtime story.
This week is really turning out to be great.  Yes, I had a bit of a meltdown yesterday, and yes I was not nice, but I know most other mothers have been there too.  The kids have a way of .......well you know......driving us crazy.  I sat down with both of them, and we tried to reach an agreement, however it did not last long.  Today they got in trouble again.  I am just taking their privileges away day by day.  Today we did not go to a playmate, and tomorrow there will be no tv.  The kids have to learn to respect this house, this family and my stuff.

Other then that, I am making sure that no matter what I sew each day.  I am having a blast.  I really wanted to sew and not clean, and I am doing it.  Of course, the plan was that I spent the afternoons with the kids and clean the house at the same time, but ....haha...there has not been very much cleaning going on.  Oh well....I will take a day and make sure I get the house clean sometime this week.  So tada.....I finished the pants this morning....and now this beauty is finished.  I plan on selling it in my shop, and will list it first thing tomorrow morning.  It is a size 3T.  I love the colors.  It is perfect for a spring/summer outfit.  Everything is made out of 100% cotton, and the fabric I used for the pants is a crinkly white poly/cotton blend.  It is great for pants.  It never wrinkles.  Perfect for the summer weather.

That Christmas Moment.

Glimpse of Christmas
Glimpse of Christmas

I have been blogging about my german Christmas traditions since the beginning of December.  One of the most fascinating moments for both me and my children is when I pull out my german Christmas Pyramid.  It stands 3 feet tall, and when the candles burn, it spins for hours.  This is has been a family tradition passed down from generation to generation in our family.  The beauty is when I catch the children staring quietly in awe at all the wonderfully handcarved figurines that are present.  The top row has angels blowing their horns, the next level has the Nativity set, the third level has the three wise men and their camels, and the fourth level is full of guards protecting the birth of Jesus.  I cannot even begin to explain what this tradition means to me, and I hope I can pass it on to both of my children.

This is why we do it?  This is that wonderful moment that fills our heart with pure joy.  Yessssssss!  I did my job right.  That shine, that awe, that look in their eyes says it all.  I remember having that feeling as a child when my mom made our house shine at night with candles and pyramids aglow.  If anything, I know now that all the work I put towards Christmas decorations was well worth it.  The perfect memory was like a snapshot that stays forever in the back of our minds.  Christmas is beautiful and warm.  Christmas is for Children.

Today I received another wonderful gift from a customer of mine.  As a matter of fact, she was the last customer I had before I closed my shop.  BooHoo.  Yes I miss it.  She included this lovely photograph of her daughter with the nicest comment.   A gift.

Another gift is the one I am giving myself tonight by sewing.  I am almost finished, so I cannot show any pictures until tomorrow.  My son is going to love it, and I have enjoyed getting back on the machine.
.  Ok, enjoying White Christmas, my eggnog and my Bernina.  Good Night.

Among Toddlers

Oct242009_0630-Edit
Ever get the feeling when you hang out with children, especially toddlers long enough, you start acting like them? An occasional temper tantrum, a little bit of whining, and a grumpy attitude when you feel that you are just not being treated fairly.  Is it because I rarely have another adult to talk to lately?  Or is it because my blood pressure rises with each incident, and that I am just too old to be mother of the year? Or is it because my hormones are at an unusual level, and I cannot compete with the rise in adrenalin levels in my body? Or am I completely normal to just "lose it" every once and awhile (lately once a week)?  I am sure most women would say "Thats normal!"  Nevertheless, I hate myself for raising my voice so loud that I lose my voice at the end of my speech, and/or making the kids cry.
I was incredibly happy to see the kids today, and maybe that was what led me to the fury I felt in the evening.  I finished my last Christmas order for Kinder Kouture, and all I could think about was grabbing the kids and relaxing with them.  Yes, I had time to go to Target, and no I did not have to "work".  I could not wait to just play with the kids.   I worked all morning, with only that goal in mind, knowing that I there were so many things I wanted to do with the both of them before Christmas.
Nicolas got off the bus, and stomped into the house, pointing his finger at me very angry.  Probably another bad example I have set - well noted.  "Mom" he said "I got in trouble today because of you not making me lunch this morning."  "Because of you I had to sit next to ????? and she and I talked too much, and I got two yellows today."  A little frustrated at his tone of voice, and his lack of responsibility, I tried to think about what I was going to say to him.  "First of all" I said "You did not get into trouble, because mom did not make you lunch, you got into trouble because you were not following the rules, which are that you must whisper and eat your lunch."  "Second of all," I said, "You don't talk to an adult, least of all your mother, in that tone of voice."  Later on I explained to him that it is not fair nor nice to blame someone else for your own mistakes.   Getting a school lunch, forces him to sit next to people who often get in trouble, which is something we can avoid, but it is not why he got into trouble.
We picked up Olivia, and as always I let Nicolas stay in the car, while I sign the little one out of school.  The parking lot is usually empty when I come to get her, and I always take a second key and lock him in the car.    He likes to watch the DVD player, and he knows that he is not allowed to get out of his car seat.  However, this time my six-year old decided to climb through the window and run around the parking lot.  As I was leaving the building, I noticed how frantic the office gals were, only to find out that it was my son causing all the confusion.  Needless to say, I was livid when I reached the car.  Lately, he has been doing crazy things like that.  More worried about someone calling the police then anything else, I obviously cannot trust him, and will no longer leave him in the car.
So off we went to Target to just grab some bread and cereal, but before we even got through the door, the two of them were fighting like cats and dogs about who gets to sit where.  I took them both out of the cart, parked it and walked out of the store, because my cupeth runneth over.  I told Nicolas that he was not going to the awards ceremony tonight, and he was to stay in his room.
The cherry on top of it all came when Nicolas left his markers on his desk, and once again Olivia had a grand ol time writing all over her new pink carpet that I just bought.  This time both of them were put in time-out.  One for not cleaning up his toys, and the other for using a magic marker.   I screamed so loud at the both of them, that I actually lost my voice.  After about a half hour, I was calm again, and I explained to Olivia that she would not like it if someone cut off Ducky's head, nor do I like it when someone ruins my things.  Taking a pair of scissors and acting like I was going to cut the Ducks feet off, seemed to get my point across.  Maybe this time she will learn  the lesson, even though I doubt it.

I guess I need to go to Daycare tomorrow, and see what it is like to be told how to act.  I was not the perfect example of a mother, and I could feel my blood pressure rising to a point, that I just sat down and took a break behind closed doors.  This is when I miss my dh the most, because he would save me from a creating a severe wreck.   This is when I need to yell at someone, and he would be my likely target, taking it all lightly, and then giving me a hug when I most need it.  I wish I had more patience. I wish I could just shrug and be done with it after talking to the kids in a gentle tone of voice.  Nope that is not me.  Oh well, can I blame it on something else?  Don't need the guilt trip that will come after putting them to bed without reading books or singing songs.
Maybe later, I will give them a goodnight kiss, when they silently sleep like angels.  Maybe then I will rest too.

Take a deep breath......now exhale.

November 4th, 2009

Before I tell you about the above picture, let me say Thank You to all my friends for their lovely words on yesterday's post. Believe me I took a long time to think about this, and knew that once I felt happier three weeks ago without all the stress from my shop, I had no other choice. I really have enough on my plate, and the next few months are filled with so much joy and excitement, I would hate to ruin that as well as my love for sewing. I thought maybe getting ready for Christmas season would boost my morale and spirits, but instead it created alot of havoc in my life. We will see how things go, but I have to admit I already feel like someone has removed a large load off my back.

The above picture is Olivia's little best friend "A_b_ery!", also known to us as Avery. The dress is a PDF pattern her mother bought from Etsy - The Knot Dress. Her mother and I have become great friends, and she is an incredible photographer . Three weeks ago, I spent two days helping Sarah learn how to sew. I took her fabric sewing, and she managed to put this little beauty together. I say Bravo. Sarah even picked the fabrics out herself, and I think she did a great job. I applaud her efforts, and need to get her to sew another one, so we can have another mommy join the ranks of SAHM/sewing enthusiast. PARTY!!!!!! We can never have too many sewers out there.

One of my newest hobbies has been photography. With the help of my friends, picture taking has become a lovely addition to my life. It is alot of fun to spend time with your kids, and in that same moment capture perfect story-telling pictrures that you will cherish for a lifetime. I do so enjoy art in every form, and there are some lovely - no gorgeous - breathtaking pictures out there. It has become my objective to learn photography, and hopefully enjoy it as a hobbyist. So every once and awhile I will have to share one or two tidbits about that along with my sewing, cooking, and interior decorating.

Recently, I learned about Jodi's blog called
MCP Actions. She shares wonderful photography, photoshop tutorials, and creates actions that help ease our workload when editing pictures. Oh, don't think that taking pictures is all you have to learn. Oh no, learning everything about photoshop, is almost just as difficult. Hard, but fun. Sort of like sewing. Well, I recently purchased a set of actions from Jodi, and here is a before and after look at something I created.

Sad News

November 3, 2009

I have a hundred things to do – no I take that back – a million things to do, but the only thing I want to do is spend some time with my blog.

My client order is due, my in-laws are coming on Friday, my house is………. Well let’s just say a wreck to put it mildly, and my thoughts are everywhere except where they should be. They have been centered on the kids, the fact that I miss my husband, my friends, and oh well I guess you could say LIFE in general. I am tired of being stressed out, tired all the time, and grumpy.

So taking things into my own hands, and trying to minimize my frustration, I have decided to close Kinder Kouture (well, let’s not go overboard – put her in vacation mode). Indefinitely or until Lance gets home. I have learned that whether Olivia is in daycare, Nicolas is in school, and I have the entire day to myself, nothing else is as important as my family. I have realized that unless my life, my house, looks perfect, I don’t want to work for anyone else. I know that sounds soooooo incredibly selfish, but I want to be a good mom and set good examples for the kids.

I remember a time when my mom had to go to work because my father was in the hospital for a very long time. I remember coming home and the house was not as clean as it always was,. I remember missing the usual things we did together, because her working took away so much of our time together. When I clean up the kids rooms (usually on Monday’s) Nicolas is always so happy. It is as if I just gave him Christmas. He loves to spend hours in his room after I clean. Now, if only I could understand why he gets it so messy, but that is entirely a different subject. My point is that my job as mom is not from 9-5, or 5-9, and I never know how long my day is or how how long it will be. When things start piling up, and I have a deadline, how do I explain that to a client without sounding like an unorganized bimbo. You get my point. No more excuses, no more frantically running about, and staying up all hours of the night. I know that this is the start to freeing up time in my life, and although I will miss it, I know I will have to learn to caress my ego in other ways

Small and Cute!

I finished another Emily Sunsuit for a customer, and once again I had to take a picture. I find these baby dresses too cute for words. Especially because this one was a size 0-3months. So small, so cute!

This is the next project I am working on. I have had this idea in my head for the last two weeks, but due to "LIFE", I have not been able to get to it. Today I decided that nothing was going to get in the way of my sewing no matter what. I did not make the beds, clean the breakfast dishes, pick up laundry or towels.....nothing. Of course, wouldn't you know it, that an old friend of mine was in town visiting and knocked at my door. Of course. I was so embarressed, when she followed me into the kitchen. Why do people do that? Stay in the Living room when you are not asked to come in the kitchen. Please. Anyways, I hope to be done with this outfit by tomorrow, and I cannot wait to try it on Olivia.
This adorable dress was presented on the blog of Pink Picket Fence. Truly beautiful adaptation of this pattern, and the pink linen fabric is so simple, and so elegant. I believe that most of the times, we make way too many things with prints, and forget about how wonderfully simple and classic a plain fabric can be.
