Simplicity 9968

It is about time I get this thing up and posted on my blog. Of course, there have been some thing that were more important these last few days. LOL. :)

This is Simplicity 9968 in a size 1. Everything went together well, and it was so simple to make. I still hate the 5/8" seam allowances. I may just adjust the pattern for 1/4" seam allowances when I get a moment of free time. The fit was great, and she really loved wearing it. The material is a sheet set I bought on clearance in Target. I always use the fitted sheet to make matching pajamas for the kids. I don't like them sleeping on flannel sheets because they both get too hot. However the print was just too cute to pass up, so I bought it last year. I just love this snowman print, and the colors are so vibrant.

I sew enjoy making clothes for the kids. Just wish I had more time to sit on the machine. Oh well, off to enjoy my family. We decided to have Turkey today since we had so much food leftover from Christmas Eve. In Germany, the 26th is considered the second holiday, so we will continue our Christmas celebration through tonight.

I hope all my freinds had a lovely Christmas celebration, and are taking some time to relax and enjoy the moment. Although there is alot of stress in the month of December, there is also alot of goodwill, family togetherness, and cheerful faces during this time. So put the stress aside, and take the time to enjoy your creativity with a glass of eggnog, beautiful music, and candles all aglow.

Coupon Lady Beware

IMG_7551edit2IMG_7543

Nicolas was so excited, and could not wait to sleep in his new PJ's.  He has to wear them tomorrow, however I let him have his wish.  I love the pants, but I wish I was a bit more creative with the embroidery.

So, I ran into the queen of coupons today.  Not convenient at all.  I tried to accomplish a million things, as I always do on Mondays, so after the kids came home I ran some errands.  The kids behaved quite nicely, while I ran from one store to another grabbing odds and ends that I needed.  Last stop - the grocery store.  Now, I like to shop for produce and meats in one of the more expensive grocery stores.  I just like the fact that the blueberries taste like blueberries should, and that the meat looks and tastes good.  I try to avoid buying boxed or canned goods there because they are definitely more expensive then our local Walmart.  I also love the fact, that I can talk to the kids while I am in there, and get through the lines easily, and not have to fight the crowds.  So, I mosey on up to the cash register, where one lady was finishing up her shopping.  I pile my goods on the trolley thingy, and look to see her going through her wallet and a ton of coupons.  Ok, she was obviously thrifty, and I was not in a rush.  After waiting about 7-8 minutes and reading all the headlines from the magazines, I turn around to find out what is keeping us so long.  I peer over her shoulder and see her pull out a binder.   This was no ordinary binder.  Not the kind we lugged back and forth to school.  No this was a bank binder.  One of those 6inch binders they keep in bank vaults full of paperwork.  Everything was tabbed and neatly organized.  She started pulling out more coupons, and then what to my wondering eyes did appear????  Yes, another binder.  At this point, the kids were bugging me because they had to go to the bathroom, and there were four other patrons behind me.  At this point, I was no longer ready to stand there smiling, patiently waiting for my turn.  I huffed quite loudly,  tired of this ridiculous and inconsiderate behavior, but she did not even turn her head.  She was quite content saving her pennies.  I noticed that most of the coupons were printed out on paper.   By the time she finished, 21 minutes had gone by.  I let the cashier know that I was not at all happy about that.  She said that was nothing, they get far worse.  What????  I have never witnessed anything so idiotic in all my life.   If she was that obsessed with her coupons, then why didn't she locate them before she got to the cash register?  The cashier just smiled, and said  "In the time she wastes doing all that, she could get a real job, and her savings would be tenfold.  Alone the ink and paper she wastes is not worth the $12.00 she just saved. "
The moral of this story........beware of anyone carrying bags into a grocery store.  Just run as fast as you can, and get to the cash register first.

I Believe..........

I Bellieve Pajama
IMG_7534IMG_7533

Oh yes, my son believes.  His favorite movie of all time is the Polar Express, and tomorrow his class is going on an outing in which they walk to a local church and get to drink "Hot-Hot-Hot Chocolate" while watching his favorite movie.

The moment I saw this flannel at Joann's I knew it would be perfect for his trip.   I made Ottobre 4/3003 #13 pajama pants in a size 92 for him.  I added 2 inches length to the pattern.  Perfect fit.  The shirt was purchased.  He has had it for some time and never wears it.   I finished the embroidery design this morning (Sew Many Designs) and decided that I did not want to stress out tonight since tomorrow I have so many things to do.  I remembered this t-shirt I purchased and added the embroidery to the front.   Now he is set.

Enough Monkeying around

Storyboard3

October 8th, 2009

It is about time I finish a sewing project. I have been working with these monkey’s too long. So it here it goes.

Ottobre 4/2003 - #13 – size 92.
A good looking outfit, and I did not think I could pull it off. I hate collars. No I dread collars. Something always goes wrong, or the points don’t look crisp enough. In this case, it turned out pretty good. The collar facing was a bit big, but I tweaked it a bit and got it to look good. The sleeves are way too short – about 3 inches. However, if I decide to make it again, I will definitely go up a size or two. The pants fit just fine. I would probably lengthen them by 2 inches next time. I already lengthened them by an inch. The size 92 pants are perfect for my skinny little boy, who does not eat enough.

This project took me a bit longer then expected. A lot of things got in the way, and it was tedious. I am not a big fan of using interfacing in kids clothing, and wonder still if I should have left it out. I was worried that the collar and the front facing would not keep its’ shape so I put a lightweight HTC interfacing on one side, and I think it looks fine. So, now I can start cleaning my sewing room which has threads, scissors, fabric, scraps and you-name-it all over the place.

I had a great day. Olivia wanted to go to school today, so I put her in daycare for a few hours, and managed to get my bills paid, my checkbook balanced, my sewing done, clean the garage so my car could fit, bake chocolate chip cookies for the kids, discover a cute french singer, take wonderful pictures of my son, cook a delicious pot of vegetable soup (if I do say so myself), and most importantly spend another evening with the kids, and relax and write in my blog. Whew!!!! What’s next.? I need some inspiration. I will think about it tonight. Good Night and Hugs!

Elephants

Just a little something I finished for Nicolas today. This is an Oliver & S Pajama pattern. Another easy one. I did not make the top because he likes to just wear t-shirts. I buy them in bulk when Target marks them down to $3. The pant pattern is so extremely easy because the front and back leg are one pattern.

I saw the material online in someone else's Flickr pictures, and I ordered it. Just loved the colors and the pattern for boys. Nicolas would prefer cars, or trucks, but did like the colors. I had the pants finished in less then an hour and half.
