On the Run

I have been running all this week, therefore the lack of blog posts. I apologize. Between soccer practice, school, sewing and being mom, there just has not been any time. Have I mentioned that Olivia started Preschool. Yes, I finally have her in a school setting three times a week, where she is learning the ABC's, her numbers and colors and shapes. She actually knows most of them, but it gives me three hours of me-time, and I will take it. She actually has alot of fun, and has not cried or thrown a tantrum yet. I hope that continues.

I finished working on several orders this week of my new Ladybug dress. I would like to start on several Christmas outfits that I have in mind. Let's just see if I am good enough to follow through with my wishlist, instead of dreaming about it. Friday was the first day I put Olivia in school, and I had all kinds of plans for that day. Instead, I stopped at a Garage Sale and bought a gorgeous french country style table. I need to sand the table top down and wax it really good to get the old effect that I am looking for, but I love the yellow finish on the legs, and I am sure it will look great in our white kitchen.

The baby outfit is one that I had made for a friend who had a lovely baby boy. I really need to do more for boys, but time.......I need more time. I have the perfect model, but need to get things done. She deserves these things, and I have not done nearly as much as I would like to. It is not easy being a single mom, and these are one of things that I often regret not finding time for. Not to mention, Nicolas' bday is coming soon, and I have not planned a single thing.

Last but not least, I received the following Cucito book in the mail. I rarely skimmed through the pages, but hopefully tonight I will get some reading done. I am off to do some other important things, so I can enjoy this weekend with my kids.

Ottobre Raglan Tee 2/2005

I have made this T-Shirt before shown here . This time however, my son asked me to make him a "Rock Star" T-Shirt. He had all the details worked out. He wanted this blue knit with a green star. I added the green trim on the sleeves to give the T-Shirt a little more umpf. Don't ask me where he got the idea because I honestly could not tell you. However, he bugged me to no end to have it finished by Monday morning. Maybe I will know more tonight.

I used a size 98, and a fabric from Fabric.com. I am not sure whether the size was too big or the fabric was of lesser quality. I think both were to blame for my little mishap while putting it together. The collar was huge. It stretched and would not recuperate at all. I applied steam over and over again, but still could not get it to shrink. So I had to remove it. That took me an extra hour last night which did not make me too happy. Then I cut it out three inches smaller, and it still was alot larger then the last tee-shirts I had made him. I usually use knits from Chez Ami, so I assume that this knit was just of lesser quality. I also lengthened the T-Shirt because the Ottobre pattern runs very short. The topstitching was done with my sewing machine and coverstitch. The coverstitch does not pull on the fabric, so in order to avoid any more distortion, I used the coverstitch as much as possible. The star applique was pulled off of the computer. I just look for coloring pages under google. It actually looked cute on him, and once I make some shorts out of the matching stripe twill, he will have a nice outfit.

Sweet Little Dress

Pink Picket Fence gave me a great idea what to do with my knits that I bought at Hobby Lobby this spring, so I decided to give this pattern a try. I have had it in my stash since last November.

I love it. Although I found the directions to be very skimpy, the pattern goes together easily. It probably took under an hour to finish this dress. I wanted it to be a top, so I shortened the pattern alot. I wish there had been measurements for the elastic, but the pattern leaves everything completely up to you. It is not easy to dress your toddler everytime you want to check out how the garment fits. All in all, I truly liked this shirt. I even got to see Olivia try it on for a few minutes. Don't ask. I promise to show pictures tomorrow. Right now, I am in the middle of making my son a t-shirt for tomorrow's Disney On Ice. I promise I will play catch up this weekend.
