Ottobre and Japanese Pants

Things that made me smile today....

- sleeping a lot longer then I should

- it is raining outside, thank goodness

- finishing up the above outfit

- a fantastic fitting pant pattern for toddlers

- a great dinner

- cupcakes for desert.

It's raining outside, and I am loving it.  It has been almost six weeks since we have last seen the rain.  It's been promised, but nothing ever came.  The yard, the flowers, and my car needed a cleansing.  The pollen needed to disappear.  For the first time, Nicolas woke up not coughing.  What a relief.  I also love the fact that we are forced to stay home.  I have been so tired, and all day I finally had an excuse to say "No, honey we can't go bike riding" or "No honey, no beach today".  LOL.  I was able to lounge in a pair of pants, no make-up, and just do little things without having to get into the car and drive.  What a relief.  I needed it.

So, this is the finished outfit.  I love it.  I introduced the shirt here (http://kinderkouture.blogspot.com/2010/04/feeling-blue.html) and decided to try a japanese pattern for the pants.  I finally can use their smallest size, and oh it was a perfect fit.  I love this pattern.  I had enough room for a large waistband, no gaping, and the length was perfect.  This is a size 80.

I used a stretch denim that I bought somewhere for myself.  I decided to applique a large flower (actually three of them) on top of the pants with a button in the middle.  As you can see it is a perfect fit.  The picture on the top left is cover of the japanese sewing book I used.  I will have to check what other patterns we could make from this lovely book.

On the Run

I have been running all this week, therefore the lack of blog posts. I apologize. Between soccer practice, school, sewing and being mom, there just has not been any time. Have I mentioned that Olivia started Preschool. Yes, I finally have her in a school setting three times a week, where she is learning the ABC's, her numbers and colors and shapes. She actually knows most of them, but it gives me three hours of me-time, and I will take it. She actually has alot of fun, and has not cried or thrown a tantrum yet. I hope that continues.

I finished working on several orders this week of my new Ladybug dress. I would like to start on several Christmas outfits that I have in mind. Let's just see if I am good enough to follow through with my wishlist, instead of dreaming about it. Friday was the first day I put Olivia in school, and I had all kinds of plans for that day. Instead, I stopped at a Garage Sale and bought a gorgeous french country style table. I need to sand the table top down and wax it really good to get the old effect that I am looking for, but I love the yellow finish on the legs, and I am sure it will look great in our white kitchen.

The baby outfit is one that I had made for a friend who had a lovely baby boy. I really need to do more for boys, but time.......I need more time. I have the perfect model, but need to get things done. She deserves these things, and I have not done nearly as much as I would like to. It is not easy being a single mom, and these are one of things that I often regret not finding time for. Not to mention, Nicolas' bday is coming soon, and I have not planned a single thing.

Last but not least, I received the following Cucito book in the mail. I rarely skimmed through the pages, but hopefully tonight I will get some reading done. I am off to do some other important things, so I can enjoy this weekend with my kids.

A Present from Singapore

One of my japanese books arrived this afternoon. Lovely things as usual. Something to read tonight, and hopefully something to make for Olivia. She is still a bit small for alot of the japanese patterns, but there are lots of boys patterns, so maybe I will find something for Nicolas.

Its a Family Affair

Feeling quite out of sorts this morning, I decided to get this family up and moving to take some pictures. As you may recall my husband is in Kuwait, so I try to send him pictures all the time. His one and only request is that some pictures of me are also included. Let's see if these pictures make him happy. I was quite surprised to get so many really great picturs of our family. At first they had no fun, and in some of the pictures you can see that the little one got quite upset. Not wanting to participate, my son and I took some pictures without her, but that did not suit our 2-year old either. After her pouting stopped, the two of them actually enjoyed the creative task of finding the perfect pose for the three of us.

Thank you everyone for commenting on my son's room. I was having such a hard time figuring out color, and then scheme. I have never attempted to paint two colors in a room, and I was really having a rough time.

However.....
Eight samples later, way too many colors to count, I finally came up with a very nice color combination. The blue is a sky blue, and the green is somewhat mossy grass green. The picture above was taken with my iphone, sorry but my camera battery charger has gone missing, and of course after three months, my battery is finally empty. I am sure a little two year old knows where it is, but mama can't find it. So I will be heading towards Best Buy this weekend to grab another one.
Anyways, once I get the entire room done, and the bed is delivered I will be sure to post some pictures. I am excited.
