Simplicity 9968

It is about time I get this thing up and posted on my blog. Of course, there have been some thing that were more important these last few days. LOL. :)

This is Simplicity 9968 in a size 1. Everything went together well, and it was so simple to make. I still hate the 5/8" seam allowances. I may just adjust the pattern for 1/4" seam allowances when I get a moment of free time. The fit was great, and she really loved wearing it. The material is a sheet set I bought on clearance in Target. I always use the fitted sheet to make matching pajamas for the kids. I don't like them sleeping on flannel sheets because they both get too hot. However the print was just too cute to pass up, so I bought it last year. I just love this snowman print, and the colors are so vibrant.

I sew enjoy making clothes for the kids. Just wish I had more time to sit on the machine. Oh well, off to enjoy my family. We decided to have Turkey today since we had so much food leftover from Christmas Eve. In Germany, the 26th is considered the second holiday, so we will continue our Christmas celebration through tonight.

I hope all my freinds had a lovely Christmas celebration, and are taking some time to relax and enjoy the moment. Although there is alot of stress in the month of December, there is also alot of goodwill, family togetherness, and cheerful faces during this time. So put the stress aside, and take the time to enjoy your creativity with a glass of eggnog, beautiful music, and candles all aglow.

Euro Peasant Blouse

I was not completely satisfied with the blouse I made this weekend, so I ended up changing it a bit. This time I hit the nail on the spot. Although the blouse had alot of green in it, the red just looked better. Now I just have to decide whether to keep the bow or not. In either case, I love to put these blouses on Olivia. It is perfect for the Florida weather, and when it does get a bit cooler outside, the blouse looks great over a long sleeve tee.

Labor Day Weekend

I finished this outfit on Sunday. The pants were done on Saturday, but I had a few other things to attend to, and could not finish the blouse until Sunday. The top is Simplicity 5118 in a size 2, and the pants are from the 3/2007 Ottobre magazine. The top was made out of a euro fabric I ordered last year, and the pants were made out of a green linen blend fabric that stretches. Both are wonderful fabrics, and so soft. It was nice to take some time and work on my sewing machine.

I would love to say that this has been a great weekend, but I am exhausted. Let's just say that I am fighting way too many battles with the kids these days. I cannot seem to turn my back on those two at the moment. I finally lost my cool on Sunday after baking cupcakes, and listening to the both of them quarrel, and finally beat each other up. Their rooms were a mess, and they managed to destroy everything else I worked so hard on Saturday to clean, all while I was on the phone with my mother. The final straw was when I found hair all over my sons bedroom floor. Yes, he is almost six, and yes he does need scissors for homework projects. However, I did not expect him to cut off Olivias bangs. No not an inch, not two, but all the way to top of her skull. It was not funny, and I was not laughing. I will stop there. I have waited months for her bangs to grow out, so I can put them back in a ponytail. I am angry and hurt, and by the end of the evening both of them knew it. So between them and the constant housework that seems to add up, I need a break. Olivia is starting in Prek this week, and I am really looking forward to having a few hours to myself for a day. To be honest, I am so excited I could jump up and down for joy. I do love the one-on-one time with each of them, but I also miss the peace and quiet my husband gave me every once and awhile.

Built by Wendy

Here I go again! Whenever my workload gets too much, I just avoid it, and do something that makes me happy. This is a Simplicity pattern 3835 Built by Wendy. A very popular pattern and you can find pictures and reviews everywhere on the internet. I don't know why I pulled it out, but after my attempt to make the Ottobre version, and not liking the sleeves, I decided it was time to give it a try. The first obstacle I faced was finding enough fabric. I have a ton of children's prints, but really not much for me. Finally, I chose this lovely fabric from the Sandi Henderson Ginger Blossom collection. Beautiful color, and nice quality fabric.

The pattern was simple and easy to sew up. I think it would be great in a knit fabric as well. I read that it is a bit snug, so I used a larger size. I cut out a size 12 (way too big!), but believe it or not it is quite snug across the breast area. I wear a RTW size 4-6, so I normally cut a size 10 in Burda, and Butterick, Simplicity and McCalls. The hips fit perfectly so I am thinking that maybe this was the intention of the designer. I do find it somewhat flattering. I also had to delete the elastic sleeves, because my arms fit just perfectly in these. I like the sleeves just as they are, and I really love the length of the shirt. It covers my somewhat wide hips. Other then that, great pattern, and I will definitely keep my eyes open for some lovely fabrics I can use for myself.

Full of it!

I had a great day.  It started a bit bumpy, because the entire family did not wake up until 8:05am.  My son was a bit bummed that we slept right through the morning, and that he was missing school.  He could not wait to show off his new book to the class.  Darn these time changes.  They make no sense to me whatsoever.
Then I embarked on a trip to Joann's to grab some $1.99 Simplicity patterns.  I found some really nice patterns for women, and great fabrics for my shop.  The linens and suit fabrics were really nice.
I came home and my husband had been working on our taxes all afternoon.  After he finished our personal information, I got moving on my business taxes.  Wow.  I had no idea that so many things were considered part of the business expense.  I had alot of digging to do in our paperwork.  Thank goodness, I love to keep receipts.  We finished at midnight, and although I am tired, I wanted to spend a little time on my blog.  I did learn that I need a much bigger filing cabinet.  Too bad they don't come in white.  I would hate having a tan or black huge filing cabinet in my workroom.
We did manage to sneak out of the house for dinner, and I was able to take a break this afternoon and bake a cake with my son.  He loves to bake with me.  I guess I should say he loves to lick the bowl, if you know what I mean.
I had hoped to sew another item tonight, and post an outfit on my shop, but I am glad that we managed to finish the taxes.  I tend to procrastinate on such a large project, because I know how much time it takes.   It always drains me, but now I am relieved and happy about the nice little return we will get.  Too bad, that most of it will go towards the credit card.  I guess that is a good thing too.  On this note, happy and tired I will say good night.
